A painting is an image with a body and a
contained spirit, with a human imprint and
a human idea. A painting’s power needs to
come from the inside out, not from the
outside in; its structure being defined by the
weight of the artists’ intention. The act of
painting is the embodiment of human action
and feeling and thought. The artist is the
embodiment of this action in thought, in a
moment of feeling, but its completeness relies
on the viewer’s empathetic response to its
feeling-toned content.
